Bike and Run Nutrition
Hammer Nutrition - I started using during my 2014 Ironman training. I use Perpetuem on the bike. I also use several of their supplements. Save 15% on your first order at Hammer by clicking on the link or use client# 166528.
- Perpetuem - Since my peak training days and my Ironman race went well using this product, I will stick to using it for Ironman races and for all bike rides lasting 3 or more hours. I use more than recommended number of scoops for my weight. I found I need 375 calories per hour.
- Endurance Amino Acid - I use before and during long training days and races.
- Anti-Fatigue - I use before and during long training days and races. This is one of two products that helped me no longer have that "heavy legs" feeling after hard training days.
- Super Antioxidants - I use after hard or long training days and races. This is one of two products that helped me no longer have that "heavy legs" feeling after hard training days.
- Hammer Gels - I do NOT regularly use gels as a fuel. I do, however, carry packets as backup with me on long bike or run training days in case I need sugars. I also carry them with me on races as backup. I did Ironman Florida in 2014 without needing to use any of the gel packets I carried with me all day! I tried a couple of other gels during training and Hammer gels were the easiest on my stomach.
Infinit Nutrition - I use a custom blend for long runs and during my Ironman run legs. A free consultation is available from Infinit to help you create the right blend for you! I use it for all of my runs now! I will be testing out a custom blend for my 70.3 bike leg in 2015. Click here for a $5 off coupon code.
Hydration
The Right Stuff - I can NOT live without this stuff! It is a high-concentration blend of electrolyte that comes in a few flavors. It has a light flavor so I do not get sick of the flavor on long training days! I have to take in a very large amount of sodium per hour due to my heavy sweat rate.
Salt Stick- an electrolyte capsule I use in the mornings or after training to help me re-hydrate. If I don't use "The Right Stuff", I sometimes open these capsules and add to my water bottles or nutrition bottles.
Other Nutrition Products I Use
MCT Oil - I use this with UCAN. I also use this in the mornings where I put it in my coffee with butter. Yeah, my coffee! I drink a butter coffee (also known as a Bullet Proof Coffee). I place 2 cups of a dark roast coffee, 2 tbsp of KerryGold Unsalted Butter, and 1 tbsp of MCT Oil in my blender. Blend it up until it starts to slightly foam up. Good stuff! Some mornings, I just drink one or two tbsp of MCT Oil. In the past, I used MCT Oil with Generation UCAN as my main fuel for long training days. I even used that mixture during my 2013 Ironman Florida.
Justin's Almond Butter - I always have almond butter in my bento box on long bike rides. I use Justin's or PocketFuel.
PocketFuel Almond butter - As with Justin's, I put one in my bike bento box. I like this product since it there are several flavors available. Banana Blueberry is my favorite.
QuestBars - I tried using these bars during my bike rides but I just cannot handle solids during tough training days. I prefer liquid nutrition. However, although I don't use QuestBars as often anymore, I still eat from time to time when I'm rushed and need something quick to eat. There are several awesome flavors!
Running Accessories
FuelBelt- I use a belt that had three 7-oz bottles. I sweat a lot so on long running days and especially on hot days, I run with my fuelbelt. I also need the belt since I also use a custom blend from Infinit for my run nutrition.
